Obituary Notice - Mr. Vipula Janashantha

Mr. Vipula Janashantha, the upper school Dancing Master of Trinity College passed away on 10th November 2011. He joined Trinity in 1988/89 after the retirement of Mr. Karunadasa Rajapakse. Even prior to his employment at Trinity Mr. Janashantha had strong bonds with Trinity, touring with the National Dance Troupe on many occasions. Under him the National Dance Troupe won many International dancing competitions in addition to numerous All Island dancing competitions.

He will be greatly missed by Trinity and his students. He leaves behind his wife and daughter.

Mr. Janashantha will lie in state at the College Hall for final respects from 2.30 p.m. on Sunday 13th November 2011. The funeral will take place at Mahayyawa General Cemetery later in the evening.

The 1950-1976 Staff Felicitation was held at Trinity College on 22nd October 2011. A special Thanksgiving service was held at the Trinity Chapel followed by lunch at the Main Hall.

Trinity President's Trophy 2011 Champions - Rugby

Trinity beat Dharmaraja 54 (4 Goals, 4 Tries and 2 Penalties) to 17 (2 Goals and 1 Penalty) on 19th Sep 2011 at Nittawella Grounds in the Quarter Finals of the President's Trophy 2011. The Trinity Forward played a good game allowing the backs to play some scintillating rugby. The Dharmaraja forwards had a good game, battering the Trinity defence.

Chamika Perera - National Chess Champion

Chamika Perera and 16 year old Trinitian emerged as the Sri Lankan National Chess Champion at an event conducted by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka. He scored 9.5 points of a possible 13 but remained undefeated. The only points lost were for draws conceded.

Nazaar Farook a Year 11 student of Trinity College Kandy "out-spelled" the tough competition to win the Sirasa CIMA Spellmaster Season 2, 2011. He successfully defended the title held by Trinity. A fellow Trinitian Sarith Bandara won the inaugural season of the Sirasa CIMA Spellmaster 2010.
